About Works on Copper
My foray into copper began in 2002, beginning as a challenging experiment, and quickly turning into a fascination and
evolving passion. Eighteen paintings on copper, spanning four years in the studio, were introduced as part of a solo exhibition
at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis in 2006. The works were met with great reviews and immediate popularity,
and continue to be very popular with collectors.
All are on solid copper, engraved on the back with the artist's mark, signature and series number (in roman numerals.)
New works on copper are constantly underway in the studio, and heading to the galleries.
The original 5" x 7" format, begun in 2002, and also in a vertical 7"x 5" format, are referred to as CopperPlates.
More than 250 Copperplates have been completed to date.
The artist's larger works on copper are referred to as CopperWorks.
More than 55 Copperworks have been completed to date.

More About Oil on Copper
Painting on copper dates back to the mid-sixteenth century and remained
popular through the mid-eighteenth century, often being used in religious or
spiritual subject matter. Art scholars and historians differ on the techniques
used by these masters, but all seem to agree that there remains a degree
of mystery as to how the copper was treated to receive paint.
In most of the works on copper, some of the copper is intentionally exposed,
allowing the brilliance of the copper surface to become an integral part of
the painting.
